Donna
I have been at Laverton Community Children’s Centre for almost four years as the centre manager. I have 25 years in Children’s services, in that time I have had many diverse roles including Senior Manager, Authorised Officer for Department of Education and Training, Inclusion Support Manager and running and developing parenting programs. Some of my fondest memories are working directly with children, whom I still adore being with. Along with working at Laverton Community Children’s Centre, I work with Community Early Learning Australia and independently to provide further training to professionals who provide education and care.  I am also studying part time and volunteering every month. My greatest achievement is being a mum. I have two adult children and a partner and in my “spare” time I love to feed others, go camping and share time with family and friends.

I believe children learn through play and that learning is happening all the time, including for adults. In developing children’s programs, I provide opportunities for each child to experience, explore, discover, imagine, and create by using a lot of natural and recycled resources. I strongly value each child’s individuality and as an educator I seek to develop each child’s strengths, interests, skills, abilities, and to continually extend their learning. These include all areas of physical, social/emotional, cognitive and communication activity. The goal of all my programs is to make these learning experiences safe, positive, and fun while nurturing the whole child to thrive into their next stage of development.   In this style of learning I want children to experience a variety of languages, both signed and multi-lingual, and to be exploring with all their senses and perceptive powers the world around them, individually and with each other. And, most important of all, I want children...
